Metal Building Roof Curb Glossary

CRICKER WATER DIVERTER: A “cricket” diverter consist of a vee-shaped piece of metal that is tacked welded in place and sealed with silicone to the front curb flange and extends up the front vertical curb wall to “divert” the water away from the front of the roof curb to prevent water ponding.

SPECIAL RIB LOCATION: Sometimes a roof opening is required to be in a specific location on the roof and the standard method of locating rib caps will not match the ribs on the roofing panel. This is where the “special rib location” form is used to specify exactly where the ribs need to be located on the roof curb in order to be in alignment with both the roof panel ribs and the roof opening.

UNKNOWN ROOFING PANEL: If the roofing panel manufacturer or the roof panel model is unknown, then complete the “Unknown Metal Building Roof Panel Rib Identification Guide” form. Just select the rib design / shape that most closely resembles the existing roof panel and fill in all the dimensions and send it along with your order or quote request. It is essential that these dimensions be filled out as accurately as possible to have a good seal.

ON CENTER: This is a term to designate the distance between the major ribs on a metal building roofing panel. This distance can be as little as 6” on center to as much as 36” on centers depending on the manufacturer and roof panel model. The majority average somewhere between 12” and 24”on centers and is important in determining the location of the rib caps on the curb flanges as well as the total number of ribs required.
